Lo teatral en "Oficio de tinieblas", de Alejo Carpentier

Abstract

En este artículo se estudia la relación del cuento "Oficio de tinieblas" de Alejo Carpentier con el teatro. Se argumenta que el autor realiza una comparación de la dicotomía vida-muerte con la representación de una obra teatral. Incluye elementos como las sombras que se van a ser sinónimo de muerte, y la luz para representar la vida. En un elemento tan particular como la música, contrapone los títulos de las canciones para mostrar la tristeza que causa la muerte y la alegría que produce la vida. La obra menciona también los meses: enero representa en el teatro el inicio de la obra, y en la vida el nacimiento; diciembre es la escena culmen y a su vez el término de la existencia con la muerte

In this article is studied the relation of Alejo Carpentier’s story "Oficio de Tinieblas " with theater. We argue that the author makes a comparison of the dichotomy life - death with the representation of a theatrical piece. He includes elements like the shades that are synonymous of death, and the light to represent the life. In an element so particular as music, he opposes the titles of songs to show the sadness that the death causes and the joy that the life produces. The work also mentions the months: January represents the beginning of the work in theater, and the birth in life; December is the pinnacle scene and while the term of the existence with the death.
